In gloves with open fingertips, the front phalanx is exposed, which allows for more fine movements when tying knots, for example. More sensitivity comes usually at the expense of thermal insulation. If you are very sensitive to heat or handle large and heavy ropes, you should opt for finger gloves or so-called helmsman gloves. These offer more grip, thermal insulation and often feature a wind and waterproof membrane.
