Kanttekening Bij traumachirurgie worden incidentele verwondingen over het algemeen vanaf het begin als geïnfecteerd beschouwd. Zo kan na het verstrijken van de steriliteitsgarantie van de fabrikant (de zogenaamde "houdbaarheidsdatum") niet-steriel verbandmateriaal dat schoon uit de originele verpakking is gehaald, worden gebruikt om verwondingen te verbinden - net als in de handel verkrijgbare hechtpleisters.
