- What is MPU/XPU? -
A majority of the sailwear is made with this breathable technology. A layer of polyurethane (PU) is applied to the outer layer. This means that water cannot penetrate from the outside, but moisture can escape from the inside through the MPU coating (water vapor diffuses from the inside through the membrane).
The XPU membrane does not allow water to penetrate, even under the harshest conditions and keeps the body permanently dry. It is also windproof and prevents windchill. This results in functional clothing that on the one hand prevents the body from overheating during high activity and on the other hand protects against cooling down during rest periods. Body temperature is thus keept in perfect balance.

2-Layer - A membrane is laminated under the first layer (outer material), which is protected against abrasion with a second layer (inner lining). The lining ensures that the membrane is not directly touching the skin, thus preventing the formation of body moisture and a sticking to the skin.
2.5-Layer - The first layer consists of a water-resistant and robust outer fabric, such as nylon. The second layer ensures functionality. Without an additional interior lining, the functional layer would directly touch the skin and stick to the body during activity. Instead of a third layer, the coating is protected and creates air pockets between the second layer and the skin, resulting in optimal functionality with less material and less weight.
3-Layer - The outer material, membrane and mesh lining are held together. The material is robust, yet light.
3+1-Layer - Extremely resistant and lightweight high-performance fabric. The outer material and the membrane are held together by an inner lining. In addition, a further layer is applied for improved protection of the membrane against salt water.
